The Koukourārata Development Company (KDC) was established to give effect to the 2025 vision for the Rūnanga: to protect and restore the mauri (life spirit) of the land and its water, and to engage and reconnect whānau with Koukourārata through creating employment, education enterprise and other opportunities for them to return to the beautiful tranquil bay.

KDC has responsibility for innovation and enterprise based around the Four Koukourārata Pou or Strategic Goals:
